Dear UNIRIO Community,
We are pleased to share that our Postgraduate Program in Informatics (P P G I) at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), whose area of concentration is Information Systems, has received the news that it has risen to GRADE 5 in the 2021-2024 Quadrennial Evaluation by CAPES – Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel. This is a recognition of the P P G I -UNIRIO as a consolidated program of national excellence! The P P G I -UNIRIO was created in 2006 with the master’s course receiving a grade of 3, followed by the approval of the doctoral course in 2013, when the Program rose to a grade of 4.
This is a great result of the effort, perseverance, and quality of work developed by all those involved, whether faculty and students, alumni, managers, and technicians!
We are overjoyed by this result, which recognizes the rigorous theoretical and applied research we have conducted on the triad of people – processes/organizations – technologies across different areas of Computer Science! Congratulations!
Gratitude to our faculty for their resilience over the past few years in believing in this mission, along with the efforts of the PPGI coordination since its creation, especially in the last four years, which largely involved Sean Siqueira and led the report and reconsideration: Adriana Alvim, Ana Cristina Bicharra Garcia, Bruna Diirr, Carlos Alberto Vieira Campos, Carlos Eduardo Mello, Gleison Santos, Henrique Sousa, Jefferson Simões, Laura de Oliveira F. Moraes, Marcio Barros, Maria Augusta S. N. Nunes, Mariano Pimentel, Paulo Sérgio Medeiros, Pedro Nuno Moura, Rodrigo Santos, Sean Siqueira, Sidney Lucena, Simone Leal Ferreira and Tadeu Classe, in addition to collaborators Bernardo Pereira Nunes, Carolina Sacramento and Maíra Gatti.
We also extend a very special thank you to the various directors and vice-rectors of UNIRIO who have always believed in our courses, especially with the support of resources, scholarships, and investment, whether from UNIRIO or CAPES (via PROAP), so that faculty and students could and can carry out their research, publish their articles, and participate in national and international conferences. This is particularly important, given that Computer Science is the only area of knowledge in CAPES/CNPq that highly values scientific production in conference proceedings and journal articles, as well as technical outputs such as software registrations, trademarks, and patents. All this success involves teaching, research, and outreach, as well as people management, administration, planning, and internationalization! Thank you very much!
