TÍTULO DA DISSERTAÇÃO/TESE: Dynamically Generated Concept Maps as a Learning Support Tool
RESUMO:Advancements in cognitive psychology have significantly enhanced our understanding of learning processes and individual differences. Theoretical frameworks such as the Theory of Meaningful Learning emphasize that knowledge is constructed through connections between new concepts and existing cognitive structures. This perspective has informed pedagogical approaches that prioritize logical and progressive organization of educational content to facilitate comprehension and assimilation. This study presents an artifact that leverages generative artificial intelligence (AI) to transform textual content into mind maps, offering a visual representation aimed at supporting learning. Grounded in Cognitive Fit Theory, the artifact is designed to align the format of information presentation with the learner’s cognitive processing style—particularly benefiting individuals with a preference for visual learning. By converting text into visual diagrams, the solution seeks to reduce cognitive load, enhance engagement, and improve omprehension. The artifact was evaluated through a comparative study involving control and treatment groups. Both groups interpreted the same texts, but only the treatment group had access to the AI-generated mind maps. Comprehension was assessed using structured questionnaires, with results indicating superior performance by the treatment group. A qualitative dimension complemented the analysis, capturing participants’ experiences and perceptions. While the findings are promising, the study also acknowledges limitations associated with generative AI, including potential factual inaccuracies or allucinations,” which must be considered in educational applications.
