Título: A Conceptual Framework for Searching as Learning
Resumo
Search tools are increasingly being used to support formal and informal learning. This complex relationship between search and learning presume several socio-technical aspects. It is about an interdisciplinary research area encompassing human learning and the use of information retrieval systems, which have been growing, and it is called Searching as Learning (SaL). This area includes learning sciences to understand knowledge acquisition better within the search process context, information behavior to estimate learning through the outcomes, and the development of search systems to better support learning-related goals. In this context, the main goal of this thesis here proposed is to bring a holistic, systemic view of Searching as Learning through a conceptual framework. This framework aims to support a suitable visualization of systemic impact generated by search tools interventions, information behavior modeling, and the adoption of learning conjectures and paradigms. In order to reach this goal, the epistemology followed is Design Science Research (DSR), whose cycles are split into framework modeling and instantiation. For the modeling phase, it is necessary, besides the bibliographic review, a qualitative approach of the framework completeness in order to be evaluated by research experts. For the instantiation phase, it demands the establishment of real scenarios to evaluate it through experiments of search tools used for learning purposes. Finally, it is expected after these cycles the necessary outcomes for formalization and verification of the artifact.
