A Framework for Supporting Transparency in Software Ecosystems Portals from the Point of
View of Developer Experience.
RESUMO DA DISSERTAÇÃO/TESE:
Web portals play a central role in software ecosystems (SECO), as they provide third-party
developers with access to documentation, source code, tools, and other artifacts associated
with the common technological platform. The engagement of these developers is strongly
influenced by their developer experience (DX) while interacting with such portals. However,
previous studies have reported difficulties related to accessing, locating, and understanding
information made available by keystones (organizations responsible for maintaining the
platform), a condition associated with insufficient transparency in SECO portals. Low
transparency increases barriers to entry, hinders onboarding, and negatively affects DX,
reducing motivation and participation in the ecosystem. To address this gap, this thesis
proposes SECO-TransP, a framework designed to support professionals in diagnosing and
improving transparency practices in SECO portals from a DX-oriented perspective. Grounded in
the Design Science Research (DSR) method, the research was conducted in three phases:
characterization of the problem space, development of the artifact, and evaluation through
practical application. As its main contribution, SECO-TransP offers a structured set of
guidelines, evaluation procedures, and analytical tools that enable keystones and platform
management teams to identify transparency issues, understand their impact on developer
experience, and receive actionable recommendations to enhance the clarity, accessibility, and
navigability of their SECO portals.
