Permanent professor of PPGI
Research Line: Business Support Systems
Started at PPGI: 01/2023
Work regime: 40h Full time
Academic Trajectory: Professor Sousa began his academic career with a degree in Information Systems from UNIRIO. He then pursued a master’s and a doctorate at PUC-Rio, both focusing on Requirements Engineering, where he developed applied projects at Petrobras through NP2Tec. Although he had planned a postdoctoral fellowship at York University in Canada, under the guidance of Professor Luiz Márcio Cysneiros, the unexpected death of his mentor interrupted the project. However, Professor Sousa remains interested in expanding his international experience.
Scientific Contribution: Professor Sousa is a specialist in Requirements Engineering, with a focus on organizational modeling (early requirements). He possesses solid practical experience, accumulated during his time at Petrobras, where he applied his skills in research, organizational modeling, and requirements engineering. His research areas also include information systems, transparency, organizational alignment, and software engineering. Prof. Sousa was recognized with two awards for best paper: one at the Workshop on Requirements Engineering (WER) in 2021, for the paper “Modeling Human Resource Profiles for Work Group Alignment,” and another at the Brazilian Symposium on Information Systems (SBSI) in 2022, for his collaborative research on transparency and corruption. In 2023, he was also named a “Distinguished Reviewer” at SBSI, standing out as a reviewer for prestigious academic events.
Contribution to PPGI: Professor Sousa brought his experience in Information Systems and Requirements Engineering to PPGI-UNIRIO, with innovative projects that integrate technology and organization. Prof. Sousa also played an important role in promoting the program at national and international events as co-organizer of the WER in 2022 and the Regional School of Information Systems in 2021. He also led the efforts to host the WER in Rio de Janeiro in 2025, reinforcing his leadership capacity and dedication to strengthening the visibility of the PPGI-UNIRIO.
Researcher Training: Prof. Sousa values the interdisciplinary training of his students and encourages the development of autonomous researchers. His academic guidance aims to broaden students’ horizons, integrating organizational and technological themes. He also promotes advisees’ participation in scientific events, thereby strengthening the program’s academic output.
